Review of Financial Assistance for Caregivers

Published on
13 May 2019

Oranga Tamariki will soon begin a review of the financial assistance provided to caregivers.

Minister for Children Tracey Martin made the announcement on Saturday May 11.

The review will consider the Foster Care Allowance, Orphan’s Benefit, Unsupported Child’s Benefit, and their associated payments.

Minister Martin noted that while changes have been made to the various payments over time, there has never been a review of the financial assistance settings as a whole.

Oranga Tamariki will co-ordinate meetings to talk to caregivers at locations throughout New Zealand throughout June and into early July.

We will also talk with care experienced young people including the Youth Advisory Group and Voyce - Whakarongo Mai, as well as NGOs involved in care.
