Working with children

Information for providers

We work with communities, NGOs and government agencies to support at-risk children and young people. Here you'll find information about funding for providers, including the funding code of practice.

Care Partners

Care Partners (396 providers) provide a range of care options for tamariki and whānau under contract to Oranga Tamariki.

Our Care Partners support us to meet the National Care Standards.

Care service specifications outline how we’ll work together to provide care that meets the Care Standards. For more information about the roles and responsibilities of our social workers see our Practice Centre website.

Understanding Care Standards

We’re working closely with our Care Partners to support a joint understanding of the Care Standards so we can achieve the best outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi in care. This includes the following:

  • Self-assessment tool - designed to support Care Partners to understand how well they’re placed to meet requirements of the Care Standards and to identify areas of strength and areas that need improvement.
  • Development Plan - this underpins all care Outcome Agreements to support a focus on continuous improvement and address any gaps in capability, capacity and quality.
  • Guidance - to support the use of the above.
