Section 7AA Report

Report highlighting the progress Oranga Tamariki is making to improve outcomes for tamariki Māori, their whānau, hapū and iwi.

2021 report delayed

The publishing of the Section 7AA Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 report for the period 1 July 2020 - 30 June 2021 has been postponed.

Oranga Tamariki and our strategic and community partners have been impacted by the effects of recent nationwide and regional lockdowns and the additional focus on vaccination programmes.

We apologise for this delay. It is a priority and it will be published as soon as practicable in 2022.

Treaty Response Unit

On 1 July 2019, over 100 new amendments to the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 came into force.

One of these amendments was the inclusion of a new section 7AA entitled ‘the duties of the chief executive in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi (Tiriti o Waitangi)’.

Section 7AA requires the chief executive of Oranga Tamariki to report to the public at least annually on the progress being made to improve outcomes for tamariki Māori and their whānau.

This inaugural report provides an overview on progress in our first year of section 7AA coming into effect.
